Clarifying mental health parity's role in utilization reviewMental health parity laws and regulations have caused insurance carriers to adjust coverage. As a result, our behavioral health utilization review process has made appropriate changes to be in compliance with these laws and regulations. New automated interactive voice response system (IVR)We’re upgrading our interactive voice response (IVR) automated telephone system. This upgrade was designed to provide a more efficient experience for our medical, behavioral and dental health care professionals and customers. We worked with an industry leading technology company to launch the new system in July 2012, and will continue the process through October 2012. Ask not for whom the (school) bell tolls: psychiatric approaches to school refusalSchool refusal is a common problem among young school-age children and early adolescents. This article describes both assessment and treatment at multiple levels of a child’s social ecology. This includes multimodal therapeutic approaches, which are often required for successful resolution of the problem. Locating a health care professionalWe provide 24-hour telephone support to help our customers identify appropriate health care professionals in our network. As part of that support, Cigna staff members are ready to research and provide referrals to specific health care professionals. Medical record keepingOur record-keeping standards are consistent with requirements outlined by the National Committee for Quality Assurance and incorporate Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements.
